Personal Statement

Personal Statement:
Are you having struggles in your relationships? Or are you having trouble coping with sadness, stress or changes in your life? Perhaps you have suffered a loss or are struggling to come to terms with a past trauma. I have many years of work and life experience that inform my counseling work, especially in helping people manage conflict, deal with stress effectively, manage life transitions, and work on relationships. I understand the challenges of relationships, family dynamics, parenting, career and job issues, grief and loss, illness, divorce, abuse, trauma, suicide, depression and anxiety and self-esteem. While in the midst of these challenges we can often lose our perspective and path. I believe in each person’s potential for healing, change and growth. As a compassionate and knowledgeable therapist, I can help you uncover your strengths and personal resources to find the answers you are seeking; and regain balance and joy in your life. I have worked in a variety of settings and non-profit agencies offering counseling services to a diverse range of people: adults of all ages including couples, seniors, people of different gender and sexual orientations, people who have suffered from trauma, people in crisis from abuse, elementary school children, at risk youth, university students, emotionally and behaviorally challenged children and adolescents, as well as people suffering from long-term mental health challenges and illnesses. I use a compassionate and collaborative approach to working with clients. I have training and experience in working with brief therapy models, as well as more in depth approaches. I draw from a variety of techniques that focus on understanding and using the mind, body and spirit, as well as techniques that balance change work with acceptance work, all while emphasizing and working with people’s strengths. I believe in the healing power of laughter and gentle humor and think you will find my style to be caring, respectful, positive and down to earth.
